Here’s the ellodave round up of things to look out for and forward to in the design world this month.
things to see.

Spode Works Makers Markets 2nd Dec | Spode Works, Stoke on Trent
As is to be expected, there are festive markets aplenty this month, but we’re more concerned with the Artisan offering. From the Esty Made Local Market (1st), to the festive edition of the Wedgewood Market (8th& 9th), we have a few options to choose from. Our pick of the bunch would have to be the Spode Works Makers Market – held in the hallowed halls of the Spode factory, a hoard of local makers will be exhibiting everything from fine art prints to textiles and jewellery. Time to stock up on those Christmas presents (for yourself…)!
Valentine Clays Workshop Throughout Dec | Valentine Clays HQ, Stoke on Trent
There are plenty of opportunities to get arty this month – at Valentine Clay HQ they have a great variety of wintery workshops, including ceramic lanterns, and of course, wreath making. There are very limited spaces left, so if you’re keen to get designing this December (and enjoy a cheeky mince pie and mulled wine whilst you’re at it), then sign up quick!

Protection 10th– 16th Dec | King’s Cross’ Coal Drops Yard, London
Marking the 70thanniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 30 female and non-binary designers, illustrators and artists have designed prints representing our fight for equality – from women’s rights to the freedom of expression. Amnesty International is behind the exhibition, attempting to raise awareness of violations of the Declaration that have happened since it was signed at the conclusion of World War Two. The work exhibited ranges from typography and graphic design, through to photography.
The Museum of Architecture’s Gingerbread City 8th Dec – 6th Jan | V&A Museum, London
Ready to put our efforts to shame, The Museum of Architecture has created a model town made entirely of gingerbread and other edible goodies. Designed and created by the architects, the town has buildings, parks, roads and is themed around the idea of ‘Imagining the Future City’ – making architecture more, ahem, palatable.
5th– 9th Dec | Locations Across Miami
This month marks the 14thedition of Design Miami, and as always offers an eclectic mix of art, fashion and design. The ultimate collection of influential designers, collectors, gallerists and curators results in a world renowned celebratory exhibition. Spread out across the palm-laden streets of Miami, there is a variety of auctions, gallery launches and immersive installations, focussing upon furniture, lighting and textile.

Wrap Up London’s Charity Designer Wrapping Paper
This fully recyclable collection of cool AF wrapping paper has a heart and an important message. Creative studio Ask Us For Ideas has organised the project with charity Hands On London to raise money for their campaign Wrap Up London, helping to provide warm clothes to those on the streets in the capital this winter. With a selection of festive and not-so-festive wraps, there is a mix of illustration (think rappers on wrapping), typography (the witty and the sarcastic) and patterns (yes, we’re talking repeated streaky bacon). Printed on GF Smith’s Colorplan paper, we wouldn’t blame you for framing some of these limited-edition prints and then using the others to pretend you spent as much effort picking the present inside as you did the wrapping.
